Creating a mapping interface

September 15th, 2005 by Dom

The following images are in response to an instant chat about http://theirwork.org/map/ We imagined the function of this map. “We can use the function to zoom into different layers. These layers are about spatial data still, but they perhaps won’t always be like an aerial map.” Emmet suggested, “We might use the slider idea to add and reveal different layers of data”.

Slide to reval different layers

Emmet pointed out that this reminded him of something else - http://skyscraper.org/timeformations/transparent.html “You click the small boxes to turn on and off different layers.” Then I wondered if there could be a two way thing going on - “you can zoom into layers or slide to reveal layers”.

Move down and through layers

Then I started thinking about how these layers might behave.

Stretched layers

Stretched like that musical instrument

Now I am thinking, “Could it do different things?”

move, zoom and separate
